John

I am trying to upgrade a windows98 (not SE) to 2000 and
and a minute or so after the launch of the setup.exe the
setup program just exits with no message or anything. It
is on a Compaq Presario 5304 with 188 MB ram and plenty
of hard drive space.
There are no special programs running that I can see.
Any ideas out there? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
John

Did you check for win2k hardware support on Compaq site?
Or run compatibility checker?

Insert the W2K CD, change to I386 directory, execute "winnt32
/checkupgradeonly".

You shouldn't be upgrading, clean installs are recommended. The
compatibility should be run anyways, it will help you determine what
applications need not be re-installed, what peripheral drivers you should
acquire, etc.

Its a good idea to seriously consider a bios upgrade. Check the
manufacturer's support site for your model for indications and more info.
