My computer works perfectly except that about every other
day it just shuts off, fans and everything. Not related
to any specific program or function. Any suggestions on
where to start. I am computer literate, but not to the
extent of going in and changing things in my registry.

Thanks,

Mark

1st place I'd check is the computer's cooling system. Is it too hot?
All Fans (power supply, CPU, and case) running ok?

Over-heating will cause this sort of behaviour. Not as fun to fix a
registry entries, but non-the-less as or more important.

Watcha!

You could start the ball rolling by looking in the event viewer
(eventvwr.msc from the run box) just to see if there is anythin obvious
happening - look at the system log first. you could also run msconfig from
the run box and then startup to see if there are any programs running that
perhaps shouldn't. Virus' like to put themselves in here such as the
infamous msblast virus.

Good luck!
