Underlining

I want to draw a simple underline (for someone's signature) with their name typed underneath -- I am new to Word and can't find how to accomplish this "simple" task.

Example:

Mary Jones

Now why can't I do that in my document???

There are a couple of ways to do it but the easiest may be
by using a tab with an underline leader character.

1. Set the tab stop position at the point where you want
the line to end.
2. Select the underscore leader character.
3. Click the tab button to display the tab.
4. Enter the person's name on the next line. You may need
to insert a space or two to have the name appear directly
under the line.

You can also create a table with two rows.
1.Define the first row with a bottom border only and no
space below the paragraph.
2. Define the second row with no space above the
paragraph.
3. Use this row to enter the name.

I prefer the Underline tab leader.

You may also use the drawing tools to draw a line.

How about just typing Shift+______________, then enter, then type their name below?

The way I usually do it for a one-of document is to hold down the underscore
(shift--) until I get a line of the proper length and then enter a manual
line break (shift-Enter) and type the name. For templates and documents that
may be reused I use more elegant methods (especially if I may want to type
something on the line at some point).
