I have a jpeg image that was downloaded on to my desktop that I can not get
rid of. I'm in administrative mode. The jpeg came via limeware which is now
deleted off of my computer. I ran my antivirus and adware remover and it
will not go away.

When I right click on it the option are:

preview
edit
print
open with...
send to

The edit does not work.

System restore did not work.

Can someone help me remove this image? Thanks.

The file is probably locked... so the best thing to do is to move it...
but this must happen on boot up, before the process that is locking it
loads.

To do this you need an entry in the registry... but a simpler way is to
download a program called MoveOnBoot -->
http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html

Set it to move the file somewhere else.. then you'll be able to delete it
after the next reboot

The unlocker software did not work for me (unless I'm too dumb to use it
correctly). Any other suggestions?

I tried the move at boot software but, it says the file is invalid.

Now that is a weird one... why don't you try booting to safe mode and
deleting it from there?

Also try using the recovery console from your windows xp setup cd

There is a tweak freeware
from Microsoft.com that can
remove it. Search there for
the NT version of TweakUI.

There is another tweak ui
available as well.

However the NT version
is the one that will list your desktop
items, allowing you to remove the
bad one off the desktop.

Can't explain why the problem
occurs or how it eventually gets
cleaned from the registry.
But the NT Tweaker will
fix you up for now.....

I'm having exactly the same problem too after downloading a limewire jpeg
file. My antivirus isn't showing anything wrong when I scan and I'm in the
same boat as you!

have you thought about

command prompt, delete thru DOS?

or

download
deletedr
http://theabsolute.net/sware/

exc for troublesome files or folders, as long as you can see it in
WinExplorer, and drag it over to the deletedr , you'll be good :):)
