Unable to watch streaming video from television websites

Hello. For some time now, I have been unable to watch television shows on a
tv network's website. In conjunction with this, I have also noticed ads
embedded in websites showing up as "unable to connect to the internet". When
I go to CBS.com (among others) to watch a video, a message appears over the
video player screen saying something like "your browser's ad blocker is
preventing the video from playing. Please disable the ad blocker". What's
interesting is that the same thing happens when I use Firefox. I am using
AVG Free version 8.0 and Zone Alarm firewall. I also have Windows Defender
for spyware. In an attempt to figure this out, I disabled the firewall,
uninstalled AVG (couldn't figure out how to turn it off without
uninstalling), and disabled windows defender. Still had the problem. I now
have everything back to normal, but still cannot watch streaming video from
CBS or NBC - YouTube works fine. Please help.

Perhaps your AVG has made an entry in the 'restricted sites' list, or
perhaps made an entry in ../system32/drivers/etc/HOSTS (no extension, a text
file)

IE, tools menu, Options, Security tab, highlight the "Restricted Sites"
icon, and click the 'sites' button.

Nope. Nothing in the restricted sites area. Not that I'm worried about the
embedded ads not showing up in websites, but this happens on all websites,
not just the tv network sites - This started happening about the same time I
discovered the tv watching problem, which makes me think they are related.
One thing I forgot to mention - I used to have Norton 360 as an
antivirus/firewall. I did not renew the membership, uninstalled Norton, and
downloaded AVG instead. The thing is, this problem started within the last 2
months. I uninstalled Norton and installed AVG last year sometime. Just
thought you should know just in case....
I appreciate your attempts to help out. Thank You.

I was having this same issue. I found your post in my many attempts at
correcting this. I went to my spyware settings "shields", then changed to
Network Shields then remove the block for common ad sites. I hope this helps.
