Unable to view workgroup computers - even my own!

I have a computer running XP Pro, set as a member of a workgroup
(MAINOFFICE). I frequently connect to my office via VPN over an ADSL
connection. My office uses a domain; my home computer workgroup name is set
the same as the office domain.

Until recently, I could connect to the office, browse office computers
simply by entering the UNC share name in Explorer. Now I am unable to browse
even the server. I could view all the office computers by browsing my
workgroup.

Even if I was not connected to the office, browsing the workgroup would show
my own computer name listed. Now it is empty.

I can ping the server, by hostname or ipaddress.
I can ping other computers by ipaddress only
I have run DCDIAG on the office server, which returns no errors. The server
is running DHCP & DNS and AD. Nothing has changed on the server to my
knowledge (I am the administrator, for my sins) that might have caused these
problems.

I have deleted/recreated my computer account on the domain. I have reset my
local computer SID and computer name.
I have even tried joining the office domain, over the VPN connection. I
have done this before on several occasions. However, I get errors about no
domain controller found, or network path not valid etc.

Any ideas please - this is driving me nuts!

thanks in advance,

Keith P.

I had similar problem and frustrations.

Solution was removing the Internet connection firewall.

<Start><Settings><Control Panel><Network
connection><Properties><Advance>
remove tick mark on Internet connection firewall.
