Greetings,

I'm having a bizarre little problem with a small workgoup-based
network. All of the machines are Window XP Pro. I have one computer
that is basically a file and print server. There is a laptop in our
network that just cannot see the server's resources. It isn't able to
ping the server by name or IP address. The rest of the machines can
all see the server with no difficulty. The laptop in question is able
to view the other computers' shares, however. So the only problem is
from one specific computer to another specific computer, and it's
occurring even though none of the other computers exhibit similar
symptoms. They're plugged into the same hub. What should I even be
looking for now?

Thanks.

Philip,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more immediate help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from the
problem computer, and from 2 properly working ones, so we can diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):
