"Cannot find server or DNS Error"

I get this error when I try to go to www.ValuableHost.com

The site is there - other people can get to it. ValuableHost says that
things are fine on their side. My ISP says things are fine on their end,
too. I have dialed in with another ISP and get the same result - "Cannot
find server or DNS Error".

The funny thing is that I can get to lower level pages on the same site
(i.e. http://www.valuablehost.com/faq/). I have no HOSTS file on my system.

I am relatively certain that the problem is on my computer. Any Ideas?

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

Hi,
Try these easy steps first:
1. Open a command window from Start> Run> cmd. Enter the following command
then hit enter.
ipconfig /flushdns
2. Clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)
3. If running a cable modem, dsl modem or router, have you, at some point,
shut
everything down for a few minutes? This sometimes helps.
4. Disable third-party security programs. Norton Internet Security, in
particular, has caused problems with XP SP2.
If running NIS...

Then, there are many other possibilities at

Hope this helps,

1) As previously stated, I have no HOSTS file on my system.

2) ipconfig /flushdns - no change

3) clear TIF - done, no change

4) Standard modem, system is shut down daily. AVG antivirus turned off - no
change

5) IE "check for newer versions of stored pages" - Every visit to the page -
no change

Hi,
Many of the steps in this article are worth a try- they won't all apply:
870700 - How to troubleshoot problems accessing secure Web pages with IE 6
[XP] SP2: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;870700

Are you running a firewall or other security programs that might be causing
this?

Try this command from Start> Run> cmd
iexplore.exe /rereg
[enter]
This reregisters all DLLs used by IE.

Do you have the problem from another user account?

Don
