Unable to select the correct screen resolution with GeForce 6150

I have Vista Home Premium (italian) and a GeForce 6150LE, embedded with an
Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard (nForce 410).
My problem is that when I try to use *ANY* driver different than the
original Vista WDM driver (7.14.10.9686), with my Samsung 94V monitor, I
can't select any different resolution from 800x600 or 1024x768. The native
resolution of my monitor should be 1280x1024.
I've installed the latest fix from Windows Update and also the Compatibility
patch.
I tired to force Windows to use 1280x1024 resolution by changing the system
registery but i had no chance...
What can I do?

I'm not a newbie so I can mess a little bit around with the registry ;)
Anyway I tried every single driver from Nvidia till the very last, the 162.22.
The problem is always there.
I also installed the correct driver from Samsung. My monitor resolution is
1280x1024 @ 60Hz.
Now I'm using the WDDM driver and I can perfectly use that resolution. The
"funny thing" is that it works great with the 7.14.10.9686 (released 21th of
august 2006) but it doesn't work at all with the 7.15.10.9746 (released 22th
of august 2006).
I tried by contacting nvidia and they said is up to ASUS to fix my problem.
I contacted ASUS and of course they said is up to Nvidia OR to Microsoft.
Since nobody cares of my problem I have to ask here...

I wasn't saying anything against you... i could have been a newbie messing
around! :)

I do have the lastest chipset drivers and the lastest stable BIOS (there is
a newest beta BIOS, but I would like to wait for a final build)... I just
checked the IRQs and they look ok... windows says there's no problem. In the
bios I've set 128 MB of ram to share with the GPU and set the internal
graphic card as primary.

All I have to try is rebooting in low resolution...

But for me there is something wrong with the new drivers... i mean...
everything is fine with the driver shipped with Vista... could be a DRM issue?

I only have the status of newbie in this forum, which I joined only a
few hours ago. I hate having to blow my own horn, but I've been doing
this for close on 20 years now.

We've covered graphics drivers and monitor inf files, so the problem
could lie elsewhere.

Have you tried rebooting into VGA (Low Resolution) Mode, and then from
there re-adjusting the display settings?

The Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard uses an onboard graphics card. Do you
have the latest nForce drivers installed?

Do you assign an IRQ to the VGA controller in the BIOS?

Have you tried a BIOS update?

Sound like the problem I had with my TV Tuner from Gigabyte. I went
from Retailer -> Gigabyte -> Cyberlink -> Microsoft -> Gigabyte.

They don't have a very nice customer support service, is it? >_>

Anyway thank you a lot for your answers... maybe I'll get close to a solution!

I know that this screen works, because as I wrote, it works perfectly with
the old, buggy, driver. It also worked nicely when I had Windows Xp.
I'll try connecting another LCD screen to my graphic card and I'll let you
know what happened!

The DRM has to do with copy protection and stuff... but this implies
"secure" connections between different hardware, in order to protect the data
transferred. The VGA, as you surely know, is analog and of course DRM free...
but it would be a total nonsense that I can't use a resolution I paid for! (I
mean... a brand new PC and a 19° screen for what?!!)

Ok I tried a different screen, an old Samsung SyncMaster 770 TFT and now I
don't have any resolution problem... it works perfecty in 1280x1024.
So apparently you were right and the problem lies in the monitor driver.
The problem is I have only one driver... the one I use normally.
My other screen is maid by Samsung but is branded Samtron... can I use
another driver? Or can I modify the INF? Please help! I would like to have
this problem finally fixed!!!

Hi there... sorry it took so long to answer, but I'm moving to another city
and it's quite a mess aroun here (and i still don't have a stable internet
connection).

On the back of my Monitor there's no FCC number, but i got the right model.
It's a Samsung SAMTRON (i found it on the website). Anyway any driver for
Samtron 94v or Samsung 914 is fine.
In the INF I found that the max resolution supported is 1280x1024...

Since I'm using my laptop and not my usual computer (it's still in a box,
somewhere around my living room) i can't check right now, but i promise i'll
tell you asap all the info i found out.

Again, sorry for the delay!
