Unable to see the envelope icon in the notification area

Hi,

Everything was fine until one fine day, the small Outlook envelope that
appears when new mail arrives, disappeared from my notification area.

I am using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP. I have checked (enabled) the "Show an
envelope" option. I have enabled the "Hide when Inactive" in the "Customise
Notifications" area of the task bar.

how can this suddenly disappear? Even if i am running only Outlook, it
doesn' work. The notification area is not crowded with applications but only
a few required ones.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Configure it to Always show or expand your Notification Area; does it show
then?

Enabling the "Hide when inactive" option is probably why you don't see it
any more. For the "You have new unopened items" icon, select "Always show".
