Unable to save in Word 2007

Dear Group,

Until yesterday, I was able to create, save as and open documents with no
problems. I downloaded and installed the Windows updates yesterday and
recieved the updates installed successfully message. After a re-boot, I
attempted to create a new document, but the old Word 2003 templates appeared.
Somehow the Normal.dotm had gotten corrupted. I ran the Word Diagnostic and
Repair 7 times before I was able to get the templates to show up like they
are suppose too. Now I cannot save or open previously save files or exit
Word like before. Should or can I uninstall and re-install Word 2007? Will
the product number remain the same? Would I have to re-register just the
Word 2007 again. All of the other Office Ultimate applications work just
fine. I'm only having the problem with Word 2007.

Dear Mr. Mayor:

Thank you for the information. Most of the day I have followed the
instructions and the problem still exists. Word 2007 opens now and I can see
the original templates when I click on "New." However, I still blank
document, which I think is a template. Now I cannot "Save or Save As" after
editing a file. Also when I selected a filed already saved in Word 2007 or
Word 2003, I cannot save it after editing it. I just need to know the answer
to the second part of my original message. Do I need to un-install and
re-install just Word 2007? Will the product ID remain the same? All my
other applications in the Office Ultimate 2007 Suite work just fine.

You could certainly try re-installing and yes you would use the same key and
there would be no problem with activating on the same hardware, but don't do
this until you have renamed normal.dotm and the data key in the registry and
removed any add-ins as detailed in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm.

Dear Mr. Mayor:

Thank you for your reply. I chose not to un-install and re-install Word
2007. I simply chose the repair option and deleted the "Normal" option under
the "Styles". I re-booted my system and logged back into Word 2007. Now
Word is working like it did before. I reprinted out the Starting Word htm
file and will keep it as a handy reference. Again, thank you for your help.
