Hi,
When a user logs into their workstation they are able to chose network
or serial/com1/com2 to sync their palm, but it's a USB palm. They do
not have the option to use USB. When I log in as administrator I can
sync it via USB. What do I need to do to allow this user to be able to
access the USB ports for his palm?

John Doe,

I am not sure how this has anything to do with WIN2000 Active Directory.
You might want to post this to a more appropriate newsgroup, such as the
win2000.general or win2000.hardware newsgroups.

As a side-note, Palm need a good kicking over their installer package. It
requires admin rights to install *and* to run for the first time and it will
only work for one user on a particular machine.

There's info here on how to repackage it correctly.

I normally recommend not repackaging applications but this one is such a dog
that you have no choice unless you want to make users temporary local admins.

I don't know how they could have got it so wrong.

Andy,

Was this then indeed a GP question? If so, my apologies to the poster!

Where I used to work made a good bit of use of the PalmPilots ( until the
merger and then everyone wanted the BlackBerry! ) and I never really got
into this. I mean, I would install it for the users but that was the end of
the Support ( usually! ). There was someone else there who took care of it
from that point ( Howdy, Erin! ).

Thanks for the additional info. It is always a good thing to have info.
Seems like a pain to have to be a local Admin to run it the first time! I
can understand for the install of the software. I do not remember that
requirement, though. But it has been about 2 years since I was there!

I'm not sure. I haven't seen the exact problem he is describing, but thought
I'd have a rant in case anyone from Palm was reading ;-)
