Unable to review files

I have changed a PC form a workgroup and put it on a domain. I created the
new user as user@domain, and logged in to create a new user profile under
Docs&Settings. I transferred the files from the local user onto the
user@domain by simply copying over. But then I encountered an access denied
to the 'My docs' folder that I copied over, when Itried to open the folder as
user@domain. So I returned to user on local PC and gave full control to both
user@domain ans well as admin@domain for the folder. Now when I returned to
log in as user@domain (or even as admin@domain) I can open the folder but it
is empty and files seem to be hidden. And so I try to go back and check the
permissions advanced settings and see that the folder is 'not inherrited' for
admin@domain and user@domain, but 'c:/docs&sets' for the local user and local
admin. I tried to alter the child and parent permissions but still when I log
on as either user@domain or admin@domain I am unable to view the files.
further, the biggest problem now is that now i am also unable to view the
files as the local user or the local admin on the pC.

How can I be able to undo this problem? I need to retrieve these files as
they are work files and I haven't any backup. I believe the files are there
but are hidden and I am unable to see them even in administrative accounts.

Log in as any administrator and take ownership of the old profile folder ...

....then reset the permissions to grant Full Control to whomever you need to.

I'd copy the data to your server (using a command line tool such as
robocopy) so that you don't have My Documents data as part of the user's
profile folder. If you use AD, use folder redirection (via group policy) so
that you can redirect My Documents (and even Desktop & Application Data) to
the server.
