Unable to remove personal folder from Outlook 2003 Folder List

A .pst file was deleted from my system. The personal folder formerly
associated with that .pst file still appears in the Outlook 2003 Folder List.
If I right-click and choose Close "Filename" or if I double click to open I
get the same error "The set of folders could not be opened". Sure, the file
associated with it is gone. How do I remove this bad Personal Folder name
from the Folder List?

try with a new profile created via the Mail icon in Control Panel.
