unable to remove internet explorer

Hi all. Currently i am trying out on removing IE. I have changed the setting
via registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} by changing isinstalled
from 1 to 0. However after restarting my pc i realise i still can use IE.
Moreover removing IE via add/remove windows components did not really remove
IE as i still can invoke IE via start->run->iexplore.exe. Can anyone tell me
how to remove IE because it seems my colleague's IE is corrupted and i need
to remove and reinstall. Thks in advance.

One cannot remove or uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows XP.
You need to perform a "repair" of Internet Explorer.

You can't uninstall IE in Windows XP - don't even TRY.

have a look here:

In XP, you can not (and should not) completely remove IE. It is too
integrated into XP and you can cause havoc if you completely remove.

You can normally repair most IE errors by rebuilding the TCP/IP protocol
stack. Locate, download and run "Winsockxpfix.exe".

You can also locate the method you can use to re-install IE on top of the
corrupted IE. Check on Kelly's Korner.

Can anyone tell me
how to remove IE because it seems my colleague's IE is corrupted and i need
to remove and reinstall.

MSIE is not removable; it's part of the operating system. The most
you can do is make it not the default browser; but some programs
ignore your choice of default browser. Microsoft has deliberately
subverted Web standards to make Windows updates not work with any
other browser.

If your colleague's IE is "corrupted", she can do a repair install of
Windows and that should fix it.

Unfortunately, the trick of editing the \ActiveInstall key as described in
kb318378 does not work once you have upgraded to SP2. Once that is done, you
have to reinstall SP2 in order to reinstall IE. If your system originally
came with SP2, you will have to do a repair reinstall.

If you look at the bottom of the link that takes you to kb318378 you will
see that it does not list XP w/sp2, so this document needs to be updated by
Microsoft with the above info.

The second link that Carey posted appears to be broken - I get a 404 page
not found error.
