I'm getting the error mesage "Unable to read file" when attempting to read a
worksheet created in 2003. I'm using the same version of Excel that I was
using in 2003. The file has been backuped to a diskette and sitting there
ever since 2004. I attampted to open in Word but received the same error
message. My program package is Microsoft Office 2000 Premium. What do you
suggest?

If it was saved to the floppy as opposed to copied there is a big chance
that it might be corrupt and beyond any help unless you have serious
equipment. Download open office and try to open it, supposedly some corrupt
files have been able to open using that software.

jasthorn,

Excel doesn't like to read from floppies. Did you copy it to your hard
drive? Try to open it from there.

I used a floppy as only an example. The file was stored on a CD-ROM disc
and I copied it to my hard drive where I have plenty of space available
(150GB) and plenty of RAM (3GB). Again, with this new info, what do you
suggest?

I can only suggest Open Office since it seems the file is indeed corrupt.
Maybe it was saved to a CD which is as bad.
Besides that I can only suggest some sort of professional help that have
special equipment
