Tom

After upgrasding to Win XP from Win 98, I am unable to
read any of my saved Excel (Office XP version) files on
my PC. I get a message "Unable to read file"

Try to Re-register Excel

Close Excel

On the Windows Taskbar
Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't
solve the problem. I also tried to Repair Office XP from
my installation CD but still get the "unable to read
file" message. I also get the message "file <name> is
not available" when I try to open a Word file. Outlook
opens my outlook.pst file just fine.

I have created new files in Excel, and saved them, and
get the error message when I try to open them after
closing Excel.

Tom did you ever get this to work? This same problem happens to me when I apply the Office SP-2?
Anyway I tried this but it didnt seem to help me either - if you found something else that worked, I would definatly appreciate it if you could share.
