UNABLE TO OPEN SOME Photos

I am unable to open some photos in my picture files
lately, even though I can see them as thumbnails. But,
once I double click on the thumbnail "no preveiw
available" comes out and thumbnail disappears. The photo
info. also reduces to JPG and amount of memory in each
picture. No camera type or date.I have restored my
computor to two months ago but still no change. This
happens to newly transferred pictures too. I have also
experienced the same problem with both my laptop and PC
picture files. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks

Give us one of the file name, including the extension.
You should have for these files:
filename.jpg
Nothing should be after .jpg and .jpg should be after the name of the file.
Is this what you have?

A Thumbnail is similar to a "Shortcut" icon. If you
have either renamed, relocated or changed the format of
the photo (i.e. JPG to BMP) the thumbnail cannot find it
and will give an error message "No Preview Available". I
suggest you read the brochure or Readme.txt file that
came with your photo/graphics editor for assistance.

Thanks for your replies. The file name did not have .jpg
at the end of them before, then a couple of months ago I
could not rename new photos without the .jpg at the end
of them and all my photos changed to names with .jpg at
the end of them. Now .jpg are all gone. I don't know if
any program that I have installed may have corrupted
these files. Funny thing is not all files are affected.

===========================================
You say the .jpg file extension is gone? Did anything
take it's place or is there no extension? Try this...
open a folder and go to...Tools / Folder Options / View
tab... Is there a check in the box "Hide Extensions For
Known File Types"? If there is...uncheck it / Apply / OK.

If the files have a .vbs extension...you have the
loveletter virus.

Read the following:
Description of LoveLetter
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.loveletter.a.html

If the files simply do not have an extension...try
adding .jpg and see if it makes a difference.
