A weak ago, while saving my files (scanned photographs)
in "My Documents" directory of Windows XP Home Edition,
my computer would not open this directory any more. When
I click on start, and then MY DOCUMENTS, my documents
file is displayed for a second or two and then the screen
returns to Desktop or sometimes corrupted desktop, with
the note:

Microsoft Windows has experienced an unexpected error. As
a precaution, your active desktop has neen turned off. To
restore the desktop, use the following trouble shooting
tips:

I have tried to cure the problem as follows, however all
my efforts were of no avail.

- Viruses (none found)
- Restored System to previous dates.
- Repaired Operating system (using Reinstallation CD)
- Reinstalled Operating System (using reinstallation CD)

Above efforts were with the help of DELL Customer
Support, who seem to be as puzzled as I am.

In the mean time the problem still persists. I have saved
all my files in the corrupted MY DOCUMENTS directory and
I can work independent of MY DOCUMENTS DIRECTORY.

Please advise, how I can recover from this problem.

Thanks.

Try creating a new user with admin rights. Log in on that account and see
if you can access the documents folder from your existing user account
(located under C:\Documents and Settings\username\). If you can, move the
files from there to a different directory, say c:\mytemp. Log back on on
the orginial user account and see if you can access the My Documents
Directory. If you can, move the files back and see what happens.

Posted 'as is'. If there are any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, they
were a direct result of my fingers and brain not being synchronized or my
lack of caffeine.
