Hi:
I am working with single user databases on Access 2007 and my problem has
the following intermittent symptoms:
1. It seems that a record locking file is left open when the original
database is closed and I shut down my computer.
2. When I try to open the original database the next day I get the message
stating that the database is in an "inconsistant state" an Access wil attempt
to repair it.
3. Then Access tell me that I have an "Error 3420" problem an can not open
the database.
What can I do to prevent all of this from happening?
Thanks for any assistance!

If you're "closing" the database *BY* shutting down your computer, you'll see
this effect - and may corrupt the database irrevokably. You should absolutely
close the database and exit Access (and all other applications) before
shutting down the computer. Turning off the computer while the database is
open is a bit like turning off your car's ignition at 65mph on a busy highway!

Am I misunderstanding?

Take a look at the suggestions at
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm for some possible suggestions.
Since you're not powering down, there is something else wrong - perhaps a bad
NIC, or connecting over a wireless network, or some corruption that's never
been fixed.

Try creating a new database and using file... get external data... import to
import everything and see if the problem continues.
