HELP!

When I reboot my computer, I get a PldReminder pop up saying "Unable to open
database in PDL Check". When I attempt to open my Access database, it won't
open it. What can I do to fix this or get around it so I can open the
database and hopefully create a more current backup of it.

I can't think of any changes that would have been made to the database or
the computer that might have caused the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tanya

Dear Tanya:

I don't know what PLD is, but it is something that is "checking" for
something. Perhaps the database is being kept open exclusively by PLD.

Here are two suggestions.

Find, and at least temporarily disable PLD in the system startup. Then try
to open the database after rebooting.

Alternately, put the hard drive in another computer, so it isn't the one
booting. Copy the database using that other computer. There are some
possible technical details in doing this, such as operating system and file
system compatibility. If the other computer has a fairly new OS, say XP,
then you should be alright.

This doesn't sound pleasant, but it should be only moderately difficult.

Thank you for the quick reply. However, your suggestion to remove the hard
drive and install it in another computer is not possible. I only have the
desktop, where the db is located, and a laptop computer.

I am the only user on either computer so I know that "PLD" does not have the
db open exclusively. It's just me, nobody else to blame it on ;o)

While searching the error code, I believe that PDL stands for Page
Description Language, whatever that means. Not only do I have a problem with
my Access db but also had a problem with my UPS Worldship software which uses
an access database. The UPS problem has been fixed since my first post.

I am able to open other Access databases, just not the most important one.
I even tried to import the db to a new db, but still encounter the same
problem.

Oh, I also tried to disable the PDL in start up but either it's not there or
listed as something else.

Suggestions, anybody?

Thanks,
Tanya
