Up until 1 week ago I was able to donwload and open compressed zip files. Now
when I receive a download it comes in looking different. It looks like a page
with the right hand corner turned down on it and in the middle it has a page
that has 6 icons in it. It is a very common icon that I see with lots of
files and it says:
Type: compressed (zip) folder
Date modified: eg. 5/6/2007 2.43pm
Size: 2.91MB
I can't do anything with this file. What is it and why has my laptop stopped
downloading files in the normal manner? All help appreciated

Zip files really are'nt opened, the files get "Extracted".Try downloading the
file,R.click on it,select,extract......

Thank you for your reply Andrew. I would do that if when I right clicked I
was given the option to extract but it isn't in the selection. I downloaded
winzip to see if that would help but I haven't been able to do anything with
that either. It is something that has just happened and I wonder if I am to
blame, as I purged some files that were meant to be duplicate files and since
then I have had problems. I also have been using a download manager to see if
it can download properly for me but they come in the same way. I did however
download a game from a site the other day and it downloaded and ran as normal
for me. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated though.
Cheers Viv
