unable to move away from google

On a laptop I can view google and search results come up but I cannot
move away from google. Running xp and wireless with d link. Other
machines connect no problem. Can't get away from google with ie6 or
firefox. Before the machine ends up in the bin does anyone have any
ideas? Cheers

sorry forgot to mention, if I click on google search result or type
in a url in the address bar I get internet timeout error message.
