Unable to log into an Exchange server

My wife's school system uses an exchange server for email. With two different Win98SE machines, she can log in (from home) with no problems. However, with two different WinXP(Home) machines, also at home and on the same router as the 98 machines, she is unable to log in.

Hours on the phone with Microsoft produced no favorable results.

Sure would appreciate some assistance.
