Unable to install SP2

I need some help with what could be preventing me from installing SP2 on my
PC. Before anyone asks it does have a legit copy of XP (Home). When I try
installing it starts, and probably gets about half way through before giving
me an error message. I can't remember the exact message but its something
along the lines of not having access (even though I am logged on as an admin
user). I also keep getting a problem with ntdll.dll but when I try to
re-register the dll get an error. The error message is "ntdll.dll was loaded,
but the dllEntryServer entry point was not found. The file can not be
registered"

The PC did have both virus and spyware, which I had cleaned from the machine.

I have tried repairing XP but still get the same problem. I will try to get
the exact error message when trying to install SP2 but wanted to post first
before attempting again. I am reluctant to do a clean install of XP and then
updates.

Thanks TaurArian, I found that website yesterday after a search on Google. I
tried setting permissions on the individual registry keys, but still had the
same problem. So I used the "secedit" files from another PC, and that fixed
the problem.

Forgot to post back yesterday after I had found that fix. Thanks again though.

I'm an ordinary user (not very computer savy) and I had an awful
problem getting SP2 installed when I did a clean install of XP. I finally
got there, but I was ready to chuck my computer out the window.

Anyway, later on I heard that the SP 2 installation goes much
easier if you download it to a CD Disk first and then use the disk to install
it on your computer when you do an XP install. It's free. I did this and
later on, when I had to do a repair installation, I used the disk and the SP
2 installation went very smoothly. Here's a link to a download site for SP 2

By the way, I also had a virus. I caught it and removed it, but it
did some damage that my XP Repair install did not fix, so I'm now getting
ready to do a clean install. You may have to do this too. If you do, make
sure you back up your data. Use the files and transfer wizard, of course,
but don't rely on it as a backup. It could be corrupted too and may not
re-install. If it does work, great. But if it doesn't, you'll be glad you
saved your files somewhere else. (I make two backups of everything. One
back-up on an external hard drive and a second one on my CD-RW). Here's a
link to a good write-up on a clean XP install.

Good luck.
