I have Windows XP Version 2002
I am trying to install a printer and it is stating that files do not exist
or is the incorrect version, it says the file is part of windows and is
provided on the windows installation cd
Will it hurt to put that cd in the disc drive, what will happen??
This has been going on a long time, I think I deleted something I should not
have when I was trying to clean up my autostart programs
These are the missing files
usb.inf 5.1.2600.0
Certclas.inf 5.1.2535.0
usbsfor.inf 5.1.2535.0
usbsfor.inf 5.1.2600.0
usbprint.inf 5.1.2600.0

Sounds like you deleted somethings you shouldn't have. XP is asking for the
disk to replace the missing files. Create a system restore point. Start,
Programs, System tools, system restore and set a restore point and let
windows find the files on the disk and copy them back. Should fix the issue
and problems post them back here,

Around that same time I think I had a virus which is why I was playing around
with things, my son also has concerns that a system restore will cause him to
lose his downloads, music ect if we do a restore

Will I get the virus back if I restore?
Will we lose downloaded files if I restore?
It has been almost 1 year, does that matter??

System restore wont cause your son to lose any music or documents etc. The
restore will just roll back certain windows components that are suceptible to
corruption. Any restore point you choose can be undone again returning back
to the state it is currently in. As will all things like this backup
everything that is important onto a disc or seperate partition in case
something goes wrong. As for the Virus issue some viruses and SPyware attach
themselve to the system restore points so you will need a full virus scan
before you do it. Make sure the Anti virus is up to date.
Every 24 hours windows creates a restore point automticaly so you wont need
to go so far back. Go back to when the problems started and try that if all
is well just continue from the new point. You may loose some setting personal
settings like screen savers etc but these wont be deleted just set back.

Any more problems let us know.
