Unable to establish connection with global catalog !

Hi ...

Here is my situation ...

All of a sudden , my Outlook Express program failed to
connect to the Exchange 2000 server . I thought its a
problem with my user account . I went to my Active
directory Domain controller ( the only one in my
organization) in order to find out what has happened .
Unfortunately the active directory is not responding in
any way .

I am able to log on to the AD Server as an Enterprise
administrator but I can not get to operate the active
directory in any way .
I get the following messages in the event viewer :

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS General
Event Category: Global Catalog
Event ID: 1126
Date: 12/8/2003
Time: 4:18:13 PM

The operation in progress might be unable to continue. The
directory service will use the locator to try find an
available global catalog server for the next operation
that requires one.

Please note that I am still able to connect to the
Internet using the DNS Server which is installed on the
same machine.

The DNS gives me the following events :

Event Type: Error

properly and repeat enumeration of the zone. The event

Moreover , the Exchange server is also down as it takes
its input from the AD database !

What could be causing this problem ?

Thanks
