Unable to draw a line in Excel

In excel 2002 the drawing icons are greyed out and i
cannot select any of them. I need to draw a line on my
spreadsheet but the icon is not working.

Hi Simon,
Look at the status bar. Does it say Ready or Edit? You cannot get to drawing
tools (and many other things) in Edit mode. Tap an arrow key to move to new
cell to go from Edit to Ready.

I can't get the status bar to show edit no matter which

Bernard,

I have sorted the problem but not solved it. Basiccally i
have selected everything in the worksheet and copied it to
a new workbook. The new workbook is working fine and
allowing me to draw OK. I had copied some lists from a
website, into the original sheet (the one that didn't
work) and must have brought some formatting in with the
data.

Is it possible that the original worksheet was protected?
