Unable to download more than 2 items simultaneously?

I've seen Windows do this in both 98SE and now XP.

I'll try to download multiple items, one after another, but after a couple
or few downloads start running, the new ones fail to connect. They just sit
there. Soon as another download ends though, I can start a new one instantly.
So basically something is capping how many downloads I can have at once with
the default Save Target As downloader for Windows XP.

Right now it's only letting me download 2 files at once.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I checked Internet Options/Downloads to no
avail.

Windows is limited to 2 downloads at once by design.
Microsoft have said that they do not recommend increasing it.

The default is two, however................
Their is a registry edit that will increase your downloads to ten on line 55
right side at this link.Just double click on it.

Option #2 This is from another post from awhile back (I haven't tried it
yet).
Note: the more downloads in progress at the same time WILL increase the time
for each download you only have so much bandwith to go around.

Increase concurrent open connections (from 10 to 100)

* Open Regedit, navigate to:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

* change the default settings for 'MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server' &
'MaxConnectionsPerServer' to 32 (Decimal), which is also 20 (Hexidecimal),
click OK.

navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings

Repeat the above settings for this location

* Exit Regedit
