unable to create a directory

I was trying to install a mathblaster cd for my child and
was proceeding along nicely when I got the
message: "Unable to create a directory under c:\Program
Files\Blaster Classics\MB6_9" "Please check write access
to this directory"

Does anyone know what this means, and how I fix this
problem? The computer is a new Dell - less than 3 months
old and is running Windows XP.

Thank you.

Hi Katy,

Are you installing in a limited account? Right-click the setup file, use
"run as" and enter an administrator name and password. I believe you will
also find that program has a known issue discussed here:

Rick,

Thanks for your suggestion. I know I'll sound like an
idiot if I ask this question, but when you wrote "right
click the setup file" - what is the setup file, and where
do I find it?

I have two identities set up on that computer - and the
one for my child is limited. I always go and change it
to administrator and then install a program then change
it back to limited, but if there is an easier way (and it
sounds like there might be), I would love to know.

Thank you!

Hi Katy,

Actually, there isn't an easier way. The alternative way is to use the "run
as" method. Instead of allowing the CD to autorun, what you do is cancel it,
then open Windows Explorer to the CD and look for the setup file (generally
called setup.exe). You right-click this file on the CD and select "run as"
to enter the administrator account name and password. This will allow for
installation while logged onto the limited user account without having to
change it to and administrator first. It's basically another means of
achieving the same end.
