Unable to creat TRUST

P

Pal G

Hello,

I am able to ping from my W2K DC to another W2K DC (XYZ)
over WAN. But I am unable to add the TRUST between these
two.

The error I get is "The XYZ domain cannot be contacted"

Any clues?

Pal.

Generally this would point to a name resolution problem. Let's call the
first DC DC1 and the XYZ DC DC2. Does DC1 point to a DNS server that holds
the forward lookup zone for DC2's domain or does DC1's DNS server have a
forwarder to the DNS server of DC2? If so, is DC2 registering its SRV
record with its DNS server? If these are Microsoft DNS servers you would
find this under the forward lookup zone. Expand the domain and under it is
a folder named _MSDCS. This is where the SRV records are registered for all
DC's in the domain. If the domain is a child domain, it will register it in
the root domain's DNS zone.

Basically, you want to make sure DC1 can locate the SRV record for DC2,
that's what it all come down to. That's how resorces find domain
controllers in a 2000/2003 domain.

I have added the DC2 name in DC1's DNS entry (TCP/IP
settings). After this, I tried to establish the Trust. Now
I encounter funny problem,
"Trust cannot be created because: This operation is not
supported on a Microsoft Small Business Server". But
Actually it is not a Small Business Server. It is a
Windows 2000 Server build 5.00.2195 Servcice pack 3.

Why is it so?

Rgds,
Pal.

Small Business Server is unable to create trust relationships between other
servers. This is a limitation in SBS.

Please take note: My DC1 and DC2 are not Small Business
Server. They are Windows 2000 Server build 5.00.2195
Service pack 3.
