Unable to connect

I have a program I bought for school with the cd-rom version of my books. I
used this program last semester and now have the new set of CDs. In order to
access my new books, I need to update my licence, which requires an internet
connection. My laptop is connected via wireless connection and I am able to
browse the internet, recieve e-mail, etc, but the program says it is unable
to connect to the internet. The program suggests a problem with my firewalls,
but my firewall is off so it should not be the problem. I have tried using a
cable to connect instead of wireless and have also called tech support with
no luck. I did not encounter this problem at all last semester when using the
program so I don't know what's going on. I spent a lot of money on this
product so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Did the license registration utility ask you how you connect to the
internet? If it did, change it to network so it won't be looking for a
modem, etc.. You might have to make this change in the "Books" setup.
