Unable to build working reuntime XPe

Dan,

Please keep in mind that those are just templates and they do not promise you get working image if you hardware setup (like HDD
setup) is different from the default one (1 HDD, 1 system partition assigned with C:).
You just always have to be watching on the Configuration Target Settings regardless of what template or PMQ import you use.

Thank you.

I created a windows2 folder on my C drive and changed the multiboot option
to boot ti rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows2

It created windows2/windows2/ windows, programs, my doc..

At first it could not find hal.dll, but when I cut and pasted windos, mydocs
ect up into the C:\windows2 directory it booted and ran great!

Can someone please explain the relation of the settings for where the build
is put?

Why is it putting everything at windows2/windows/2 ?

Thank you all again!

Hi Dan

I lost you with nested windows2 folder :-(
You should copy manualy all files in a way that windows folder and other
folders get directly to your root folder.

In TD if you choose different boot and OS volume letters you will have one
additional level of folder created because that mean that you should copy
content of the folder with windows folder to second volume.

In TD you should use C: on both places if you use registry method for
forcing C: from TD.

Ok. Before XPe will load I have to copy everything out of the windows dir
and paste it into the root directory. i.e.
C:windows (this is my workstation OS)
C:windows2 (this is my root directory? for embeded os test)

It installs like this:
C:
windows2
windows2
mydocuments
programfiles
widows

I cut and paste everything from there to:
C:windows2 (this is where I am booting to: multidisk
ridsk(0)partition(1)\Windows2

But Before it work (can find hal.dll) I have to cut everthing out of the
windows directory and paste it into my windows2 directory..
C:\windows2\
my documents
program files
system32 ....
all other files from windows directory

This will boot and run fine:

SO, I think there is a problem with what I type into the device settings
where the build is made. Here is what I have iit set at:

Boot drive "C:"
Windows folder "C:\WINDOWS2"
Program Files folder "C:\WINDOWS2\program files"
Documents and Settings folder "C:\WINDOWS2\Documetns and settings"
Boot ARC path "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)"

I am booting to my workstation partition in a different folder because I was
having some issues with my partition...

Anyway, what should the setup be to make this work in my windows2 directory
without having to copy and paste the file around until it works?

Thanks, Dan

Dan,

1. All files should be placed in root folder. like other windowses do it.

C:\Windows
C:\Program Files
C:\Document And Settings.

Also this is default in every new project that you make.
Only things that you should change is build output path that should go to
either some tmp folder from which you will copy files.
Or in case that you use second disk then you can point to volume root like
X:\.
After you switch disk boot order in BIOS it will become C:

Slobodan

PS:
Take a few minutes to think about the paths that you have put and about what
you want to do.
Or describe what you have and what you want to do so we can tell you how to
configure TD the best:
How many HDD's how they are parititoned, do you use development machine for
XPe testing, etc.
