Hi,

I am trying to attach an USB external hard drive (160 G) to my Win XP
system.

I was told by the vendor that as soon as I attach, Win XP would
recognise and I can start using it. But when I tried to attach it, I am
getting the following error message -

"Code 10 - the device cannot start. "

Any idea how can I resolve this? Please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

You need to format the drive, install xp cd,boot to xp cd,recovery, press
enter for password,then type:DiskPart In DiskPart,create a partition,one
with 137gb or less, then create another for unallocated space, then press Esc
key,then type:FORMAT E: /FS:ntfs E: being the new partition,then when thru,
format the other partition, when thru, type:EXIT Let xp start, remove xp cd.
