Unable to access TV-In Features: ATI Video Card: Vista RC1 5600 /

Still unable to utilize the TV-In features of my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 XT
Video card. Dual monitors work great (with Glass). Can't figure out how to
extend single wallpaper across both screens, however. TV-In features (for
Media Center) do not work at all. Any suggestions would be welcome.

The AIW cards will never work with Microsoft's Media Center. The only hope
we have
is for ATI to create its own MMC that runs in Vista.

Since ATI was able to update the AIW card driver with its software encoder
in their XP MMC program in the summer of 2005 so that you could use AIW card
with Media Center for Live and Recorded TV in MCE 2005. I don't see why they
can not do the same thing by updating their MCE 2005 MMC program to run in
Vista.
Although I have not seen any anouncement from ATI that they plan to do this.
Since they are still selling new models of AIW cards I would expect that are
planning to at least have a version of their MMC program that works with
Vista.

It was Microsoft that eased the restriction on MCE 2005 that required a
hardware
MPEG encoder (The previous versions required it). They put that restriction
back
into Vista to take some of the load off the CPU.

But that makes no difference, all that means is that MS will not approve use
of any AIW cards tuner in Vista or for using the designed for Vista logo
program (assumig there is one), Since MCE or Vista only talks to the driver
and the driver talks to the card MCE or Vista has no idea of knowing if the
encoding available by the appropriate driver call is being done by wn
encoder routine in the driver itself or by an encoder chip on the card.
MS never did approve the AIW cards software encoder for use in MCE 2005
after they had approved it for use in MCE 2004. The reason for the change
was that with MCE 2005 multiple tuners could run concurrently and and the
CPU utilization required would be devaasting on system performace.
