Unable to access shared folder in Win95 machine

I am using WinXP Pro connected to a Windows 2003 domain network. On mapping a
drive to the Win95, I can access the all folders and files. However after I
exited the drive, I am unable to access the same drive again until I rebooted
the machine.

My user had full access to the Win95 machine and accessing mapped drives on
other PCs seemed to be OK.

Can anyone help??

Hmm, the symptoms are not 100% consistent with this, but the fact the target
machine is win95 hinted at this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895900

Is the problem update installed on the XP machine?

Hi Ron,
I did uninstall the problem update, however, the problem still persists. On
checking, I've found out that all WinXP machines are unable to access the
shared folder in Win95 machine.

Oliver

Some tests..
Go to a command prompt window, and thy the following:

First, determine the IP address of each machine using the command
'ipconfig'.

Can the XP machine ping the windows 95 machine
by both IP address, and name, eg:

ping 192.168.0.10
ping win95box

Then, what happens if you try to list the shares using the command:

net view \\win95box

On each box, does the command 'nbtstat -n' output a
list of the machine and workgroup name?

On the XP machine, do an 'ipconfig /all'.
What is the Node Type reported?

Hi Ron,

I can ping the Win95 machines by ip addr and by pc name.

Also by running net view \\win95box, i can see all the shared names

nbtstat -n does return a list of the machine and workgroup name

Node Type on WinXP says 'Hybrid'

Oliver
