Go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
and find the "HOSTS" file. It's the one that's bigger than 1 k. Make a
copy of it for backup. Double click it to bring up the "Open With.."
window. Choose notepad to open it, then delete every line except
"127.0.0.1 localhost". Then save the file.
You probably have a virus can you get to Symantec.com?
Have a friend or use a different computer and download the stinger program
from MacAfee this tool will fit on a floppy but only scans for most popular
viruses so it is not perfect!
Start computer in safe mode and run stinger. You also may have to fix
hosts file manually!
Get antivirus software and keep it up to date. Virus updates have been
coming out more than once a week if you have dialup set it it check for
update on dialup with a 2 minute delay! You should have a once a day box
too!
For broadband just set it for logon or startup!

I cannot access McAfee.com site, all others I have no problem accessing
Thanks very much for your information. After I deleated all entries in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC except 127.0.0.1 localhost, I was able
to access McAfee.com. McAfee always kept telling me to reload the Virus
Scan software. Obvious, they were wrong and you were correct. Again,
thank you.
You're very welcome
But there's still the problem of who or what put those entries there.
I suggest you run an online scan at any of these sites, and also a
scan looking for malware with updated-adaware and spybot.
