Un-deletable Temp Files

I'm doing some clean-up work and have come across 3 files in the following
directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\Family.HP-F035E82C816E\Local
Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\13YZ1J7G

The file names are very long and are:

activity;src=982522;met=1;v=1;pid=14088138;aid46951041;ko=0;cid=18411251;rid=18429146;rv=2;timestamp=1162164142703;eid1=2;ecn1=1;etml=6;[1].gif

activity;src=982522;met=1;v=1;pid=14088138;aid46951041;ko=0;cid=18411251;rid=18429146;rv=2;timestamp=1162164148703;eid1=2;ecn1=1;etml=6;[1].gif

activity;src=982522;met=1;v=1;pid=14088138;aid46951041;ko=0;cid=18411251;rid=18429146;rv=2;timestamp=1162164176062;eid1=2;ecn1=1;etml=6;[1].gif

Unlike all other Temporary Internet Files, I have been unable to delete,
move, copy, rename, or even look at the properties of these files. I've also
tried to open them with just about every application I've got without
success.

Does anyone have an idea what they are, whether or not they're needed, and
if not, how to get rid of them?

BTW...I have MS Windows 2000 Professional but I didn't see an option for
that version of Windows in the Discussion Groups.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If they are really .gif files, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer should open
them. Graphic Interchange Format, GIF, it's like a .jpg file. However the
files could be anything, like a virus or some sort of spyware.

Probably something from ad.doubleclick.net or another crapware vendor.

Reboot and try to clear out your Temporary Internet Files again.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

Note: If you do NOT select the Delete all offline content box, not
everything will be cleaned out.

I had been doing that all along but it didn't have an affect. However, I
recently did a couple of things that did the trick. Note that the files were
in the Temporary Internet Folder WITHIN the Temp folder. I also have another
Temporary Internet Folder NEXT TO the Temp folder. Although I was unable to
move the files individually, I was able to move the whole folder (that's
weird!) and I combined both Temporary Internet Folders into the one that
exists NEXT TO the Temp folder.

The other thing I did was to delete from the Temp folder, some ".exd" files.
I don't know where they came from.

Not sure which action (or both) did the trick but I was able to get rid of
those gif files.

Thanks

John
