I am running XP Home ed. and am unable to connect to a
website via ftp, but my friend can connect with his Win 2K
(same site), so I am wondering if there is a service I
need to enable or disable?

Thank you

To view an FTP site that allows anonymous access,
simply type the URL in the Address bar of either
Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer. To connect
to an FTP server that requires you to provide your
user name and password, you can include your logon
information in the Address bar, like this:
ftp://name:p[email protected]

Microsoft Windows XP Professional includes Internet
Information Services (IIS) version 5.1, software that allows
you to host Web and FTP sites. IIS provides a Web server,
a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server, and a Simple Mail
Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server. You might already
be familiar with IIS; IIS 5.0 is included with Windows 2000
Professional and a scaled-down version of IIS, Personal Web
Server (PWS), is included with Windows 98. IIS is not included
with Windows XP Home Edition.

Thank you for your reply Carey,

The thing is, I can not connect to the site I am going to,
I have tried 4 ftp programs including the browser, yet my
friend that is using Win 2K can connect. I do not want to
host a site, I just want to access one. All I can think
of now is that there is a setting in Internet options or
Services that is limiting me from making the connection.
