my power went out and when i restarted my computer, it took forever to load,
then i got a service.exe error saying umpnpmgr.dll is missing. reinstall it.
i click ok and my screen goes black. eventually my desktop appears but i cant
open anything. my start, time, etc. are not visible. plesae help

Hi Chrissy,

umpnpmgr refer to a plug n play driver that may be missing or corrupted, so
try to open your Device Manager and expand all Hardware specially the IDE for
HDD, CD/DVD, Floppy and see if there is one malfunctioning and reinstall the
driver for it.

You can run this command by opening run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run, you will need your XP CD handy.
