Ultimate Requirement Inquirty

Hi Everyone,

This one is directed to any Microsoft Moderators, Beta Testors, or
individuals who are fairly confident with the Aero interface requirements.

My question is in regards to Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, if you look
online and see the specifications the list outlines "GPU: Windows® Aero™
Capable". Does this mean that you ultimately need it? When I run it on the
devices here some of our laptops do not meet the Aero capability but the rest
of the system is indeed compatible.

For Example see CompUSA's website at:
http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...code=342851&Pn=Windows_Vista_Ultimate_Upgrade

I do know that this is related to the graphics driver, and that I don't have
one that supports it entirely. Or that it just can't perform the horse-power
to support it....

With the above being said, if these notebooks do not support the Aero
interface, can we still install the Ultimate edition to these devices and
still have it work without this feature?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Windows Aero is the new hardware-based graphical user interface in Windows Vista.
It requires a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor, with a Windows Display Driver
Model (WDDM) driver, and a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM.

You can still install and run Vista Ultimate on a PC that is not Windows Aero compliant,
buy you'll not have the Windows Aero graphics capabilities.

Thank you so much for clarifying... Since it said "requirements", I thought
that it wouldn't work...

I now just need to wait for Tuesday to come around to go out and get it!

Take care and enjoy the weekend!

You only need it as a 'requirement' to run the Aero interface. Vista will
run perfectly well on an older video card, you just won't see the fancy
glass (Aero) effect.

Well that helps, just looking at that and coming from a gamer's background...
When you see the text entitled as required, you often get the white ghost and
disappointment look usually!

Therefore I thank everyone for the clarification on this.

Best Regards!
