UID Error in Outlook 2002

We have a user who keeps getting this error:

"Your server ahs reported a UID which does not comply with the IMAP
standard. This typically indicates a server bug. Your program may
not function properly after this."

He is using Outlook 2002 on an XP machine. While in the office, he
connects over the network. While on the road, he connects with
dial-up. He gets the error when he comes back in the office and
changes he outgoing mail server back to the network settings. He can
send and receive and read mail, but he gets the message every time he
opens a new message or moves a message to a folder, so this is very
annoying to him.

I read somewhere that the *.UID files should be deleted so they could
be regenerated, but there are no files of this type on his computer.

Any ideas?

There turn out to be some timing issues in Outlook's IMAP support that cause
this message. Typically, these occur when there are rules running on the
IMAP server that move messages to other folders, so Outlook gets a
notification that a new message has arrived but it's not there when it goes
to fetch it (because it got moved). If he does indeed have rules, he might
want to try disabling them and see if that helps. Otherwise, I don't know
of a way around this when it occurs.
