Does Windows 2000 support udma-133?
If so how can I check?

I know udma-100 support was added to sp2 but I can't find
a definite answer to supporting 133.

Thanx
Dave.

FWIW 133 is not an official IDE standard. The standards went from ATA100
to SATA.

Ok...if this is true then I'll admit my ignorance and accept the shame
of being
dooped by marketing ploys.

In that case I shall rephrase my question...
If my system's BIOS, disk controller, and hard drive all support
transfer
rates of 133MB, udma mode 6, or what ever else it is refered to, will
Windows 2000 with service pack 3 installed transfer data at this speed
or will it down shift to 100MB?

Dave.

It shouldnt.

As long as the chipset drivers you are using are current, then you should be
good.

NuTs

Ok but is there any way I can verify what mode it is in?

Dave.

many drive manifactiuers have a downloadable uitlity for this kind of
thing.

I checked Maxtor's web site but the only utils they have are powermax
(nfg on my nForce2 board and irrelevant for this situation) and the
"Big Drive Enabler" which again is irrelevant for this situation.

The BIOS does show the drive in mode 6. I only want to confirm that
Windows is doing the same.

Dave

No good...Win2K only says it is in udma mode and not which one it is
in.

Dave.

Your drive is working fine, i take it. Therefor your complaint is....?

Not a complaint...
I just want to be sure that I am getting the full potential out of the
drive...potential that I paid for. This drive would also work great
in PIO mode but I'm sure you'd agree that's no way to go!

I'd have no info to base a decision on....
Of course, i could break out Google if i wanted to know. :)

I have tried all that...many many hits on system specs or raid systems
or udma 100 or how to enable udma 66. I have yet to find anything
concrete on whether or not udma 133 is supported in Windows 2000.

I don't have immediate access to a Win2000 machine, however, if any
Microsoft sotware would tell, I bet it would be System Information
(somewhere in the Start button)
