"Another crack in the Windows Genuine Advantage wall. A user at
UbuntuForums.org managed to [1]validate an Ubuntu installation as a
genuine copy of Microsoft Windows and get to the download page of
Windows Defender, using IE4Linux and Wine. (Here is an [2]OGG video of
the process.) Along with the advancement of LiveCD technology, this
could spell the end of Microsoft's control over who gets their updates."

Who says linux can't do anything as good (or better than) windows?

I was on the grassy knoll in Dallas that dark day when Kennedy rode in a
motorcade. I saw the shooter in the window but didn't have time to alert
anyone. History could have been changed, but my Windows wireless phone blue
screened and my Linux powered automobile wouldn't start.

Go figure.

You missed the point due to your inbred ignorance in regards to Ubuntu.
The point is that WGA is a flawed program and has no business existing
other than to inconvenience paying customers like you, Frankie boy.
Course you think that bending over for activation and any flavor of WGA
is normal. And then you post one insult after another to prove how
clever and cute you really are.

with no relevance, but Frank made a good funny here -- WGA is just

What am I missing here?
Would I be correct to assume that a Windows Defender download is useless to
a Linux user?
And as far as Microsoft losing control of who gets its updates: As I see it,
if a Linux user is able to download some kind of Microsoft update that is
completely useless to the Linux user, what difference should that make to
Microsoft? And what difference should that make to Windows users?

I really mean these as questions. I'm not trying to get into a Win-vs.-Lin
argument. I'm just not sure I see the relevance of this to everyday users.
What am I missing?

Absolutely nothing.

It proves how flaky and inaccurate WGA is. We can only hope that MS will
see the writing on the wall and stop insisting on this crapware.

To prove that WGA is a royal POS, catches no pirates and only
inconveniences paying customers, of course!

It's also absolutely hilarious that MS would declare Linux to be
"genuine Windows".
