uable to open http sites or run windows update

I have uable to open the hotmail sites and the online banking. The windows updates have not been running for some time now as well. On starting the computer, 'invalide backweb 4448364' error message appears. Also on opening windows update 'windows update incomplete' with error 0x 800B0004 or something appears. Do not know much about computers bht I have tried suggested base KB Q174360. Please help! I am getting a little frustrated.
