Two Personal Folders?

B

Big Al

I just realized that I have two Personal Folders in Outlook, and sometimes
mail is going into one of them and sometimes into another (from "Rules", I
assume). I don't know why I have two Personal Folders, and I'm not sure how
to combine them into one (maybe I can just copy messages from one into the
other?) or delete one. Any ideas on why Outlook created two instances of the
Personal Folder? What do I do now if I only want one? Thanks in advance.

Outlook didn't do it. You did. You've posted too little information for
anyone to help. It would be essential to know what mail account types you
are using and how many you have in your profile.
Outlook can only have one default information store. Unless you are using
IMAP, there is no reason you can't move everything into your default file
and close the one that is not your default. Obviously if you have rules that
move messages into a non-default folder, you'll need to come clean with some
details that those of us who are not mind readers should know. Might want to
read up on some guidelines on how to post to a newsgroup:

Apologies for not providing enough info. I thought that asking people who
are far more skilled and knowledgeable in the technical end of this would
help solve the problem quicker, and I guess it did. I had no idea what you
meant by "how many account types" I had, so in trying to fumble through
things to figure that out, I discovered that one of them is from "backup.pst"
and the other from "outlook.pst". So now I understand that, yes, I did
create it (as you curtly informed me), and I am assuming that if I rename the
"backup.pst" to "backup.pstold", that will probably end both appearing in the
screen. And yes, I'll go through my rules and make sure they are current.
Thanks for the reply, and sorry my lack of knowledge was upsetting to you.
Hope the rest of your day is better.

Account types referes to mail accounts, pop, imap or?
Renaming the backup pst will cause you problems and may corrupt your Profile
and your current backup will still create a same name backup pst.
If you want to remove the backup pst, simply select that set of Personal
folders, rt click,remove
Its more usual to have an Archive set of personal folders shown within
outlook under folders tree view, if you have the backup set shown you must
have opened it.
Now if mail is being directed to the backup set you would appear to have
incorrectly set up some rules, perhaps you should check all your rules

Actually, you were asking us to read your mind. No matter what our technical
skills may be, we can't solve your problems until you tell us accurately and
completely what they are and the steps that created them. You still haven't.
None of your assumptions is correct. Suggest reading the guidelines I posted
and posting back with sufficient information.
