Two Network Connections

On XP, I'm using a Netgear router to connect to the
internet via DSL. I just reformatted and set my computer
back to factory standards. For some reason, I have two
network connections. One is labeled internet and the
other lan. I don't know why I need an internet network
connection running when I'm hooked up to the router. Can
anyone explain. Thanx.

D.B.,

I'd bet that what you're seeing is the UPnP agent on the router. Try right
clicking on the Internet icon and selecting Properties. It should identify the
router, if I'm right.

If that doesn't help, please provide ipconfig information for your computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with the ipconfig listing.

And D.B., please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - never post your address unmunged.
