Hi, I have set up an icon on desktop to open my hotmail account. when I set
up a second account with another desktop icon, the two icons will only open
up the same account.

Is there any way to have the separate icons open different accounts?
thanks.

Yes

Explain ... what are the icons shortcuts to? IE connecting to Hotmail page?
If so, and you set to Remember my username and password on the Hotmail Logon
page, only one will be logged in the Hotmail IE cookie that is created on
your system.

If the shortcuts are to OE, accessing your Hotmail account, you can setup
multiple accounts in OE, and use File | Switch Identities to bounce back and
forth between accounts (to keep everything separate), or just add both under
one session and set the option to always include this account when checking
for Send/Receive mail.
However, the e-mail maybe merge in the Hotmail account folder in OE.

I think perhaps your problem is the shortcuts are opening the 'logon' page
to Hotmail which is in of itself not account specific.

Windows is then inserting the 'last user/password used' so giving the
appearance of opening the same account from different shortcuts.

You may be able to do something like what you want with a product like this
one http://www.dynadvance.com/.

Cheers
Paul.
