Twin Sony DRU-800A Problems

The company I work for has an application that is required to write the same
data to two DVD-R disks at the same time, however we are experiencing a
problem using two DRU-800A drives in the same PC under Windows XP Service
Pack 2 (with all security patches applied).

First notice this problem when inserting disks into both drives, our
software reported one drive as recognising the disk and other not recognising
the disk. The software uses functions from hpCDE from Primo Software to
write to the drives. This problem only occurs in Windows XP, Windows 2000
seems ok.

I have this Sony this question, said the drive may be faultly or more likely
a Windows problem. Primo Software have yet to response to a question about
drive compatiblity with hpCDE.

The two DRU-800A drives are connected to the same IDE channel with one
configured as slave and the other as master, the other IDE channel has the
system hard disk connected to it, there are also two additional IDE hard
drives connected to an Adaptec RAID controller in RAID 1 configuration.

The problem is that only one DRU-800A drive is seen as a DVD writer, the
other is just seen as a CD drive. Viewing the Recording Tab under Properties
in Windows shows the one acting as a DVD writer has the ‘Enable CD Recording
on this Drive’ option selected while the one acting as a CD drive does not
have this option selected.

If the ‘Enable CD Recording on this Drive’ option is selected for the one
acting as a CD drive, it now becomes seen as a DVD writer, however the other
drive is now seen by Windows as a CD drive. How can we get Windows XP to see
both DRU-800A drives as DVD writers?

Thanks

The problem may reside in the Primo software. I know that the complete
reatil version of Nero will allow you to see BOTH DVD drivers correctly.
