Suddenly (after the last windows update?), tweakui will not apply and keep
autologon. Downloaded v2.10 and some problem. check the box, click on apply
and next boot logon window comes up first. I am the only user, and tweakui
shows my account name. I do not have any password set for my account.

I couldn't find anything by searching Google either.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob

Try this:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' - delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out and then reboot your system.

You have to set a password for the account for the autologin to work.

Strange that after not having a password for 3 years and using tweakui to
autologon all of this time, I suddenly need a password

I had never set a password in user accounts.

Will:
I used your advice, and after running control userpasswords2 the box for
user must use a password was not checked. So I checked user must use a
password, created a password, went to tweakui, entered the password,
rebooted then cleared the password, cleared it in tweakui, and I am back up
and running like "the good old days" booting up and logging directly on to
my account, and no password needed.

You do not need a password for Autologon. But you may have installed
the update that installs the .NET framework, which adds a user ASPNET.
In TweakUI's logon main page look for 'Show ASPNET on welcome screen',
and uncheck (so you have just your own name as being shown) and try
again

Thanks for the help. It is working correctly with the previous fix that I
did, but I have saved the tip if I have a problem in the future caused by an
update etc.
